Narnia, Hanukkah, writing and other such stuff
Saw Narnia with my daughter on Friday - really enjoyed the flick. Was definitely more involved with what was happening than King Kong. A DVD keeper for sure, and now I'll have to go back and re-read the book, since I remember squat after reading it what seems like eons ago. Tilda Swinton was awesome as the White Witch. Overall, two thumbs up :)
My wife and I are huge fans of 24, and for whatever reason, we missed the first two episodes of Season 4, so decided to wait it out and buy the DVD...Lo and behold we're racing through the season, now having watched the first 8 episodes. This season is far and away better than seasons 2 and 3. The show was so unique and fresh when it first arrived, it's hard to top Season 1. And, I don't think anything will ever top the gut wrenching episode from the previous season where Kiefer had to shoot his boss in the head, execution style. Wow. Anyway, we have to watch the remaining 16 episodes before Season 5 arrives. A tall order, but we can do it!!
Had ourselves a little Hanukkah party in our tiny "shack" last night - invited our two closest family friends over - a total of 8 kids crawling, walking, running, jumping, throwing, yelling, laughing, crying...and opening presents. Lots of fun!!!
Managed to write another 5 pages between Sat and Sun. I'm at another crucial "reveal" chapter where our intrepid hero learns the true history of his family and a whole lot more! I'm stuggling with how much of this I can realistically reveal, vs. somehow organically letting it just happen. I think it's crucial that the hero learn what he was born with and what he's up against, and I think at page 120+, the reader wants to know just what the heck is going on. But I'm not sure how much I should reveal. I'm hoping to find out next month at the Writers Boot Camp I'm going to in Baltimore. One of the key 4 attendees is Ginjer Buchanana, who just edited Douglas Clegg's latest bestseller, The Priest of Blood http://www.vampyricon.com/. This book, which I just started reading, is part 1 in what I think is a trilogy. I can't wait to pick her brain and ask all kinds of questions about Mr. Clegg and writing in general. There are elements of his series that echo mine, so it'll be interesting to see if she knows more about how he pitched it and went about writing it. Can't wait!
I have tons of comic books to read, but have been so busy writing my novel and reading similar works of fiction, I've got a massive stack to go through. Tops on the list is "The Other" special event series taking place throughout the 3 main Spider-man books. Plus I still haven't read House of M, and some others. I need to sleep less!
Nuff said for now. Chow...
