I'm back, baby!!!
Not that anyone is actually reading this...and if anyone was, they are long gone now :)
But, after something like six months without a post, I felt that tug and decided it was time to get back into posting on a regular basis.
Where to begin? Well, I've been completely swamped at work. Traveling like a mad man around this great country. Still love my job. Family is great. Boys are now 2 yrs old and hilarious. My favorite activity with them is dropping onto the floor and wrestling/tickling each other. Love it. Daughter is almost 7 and at times she's 16, while other times she's 2! But, she's amazing, and doesn't realize how amazing she really is. We just watched the new Spider-man 3 trailer together, and I think I have to take her to see it next summer. She's seen the first two a half dozen times! That's my girl!! Wife is great. Puts up with me day in and day out, she deserves a medal. She's very busy with public school stuff and socializing. There are times when I think we have too many friends. It freakin kills out bank account going out all the time, and I need for us to cut back on $200 evenings - dinner and babysitter.
Been reading a ton of great books - Nightwatch (the Russian blockbuster movie that came from this novel trilogy), Vampire Hunter D, Vol 1, Four and Twenty Blackbirds, Strangewood, The Prince of Nothing series (books 1 and 2), and others I can't remember right now. Just started World of Hurt, by Brian Hodge.
So...my novel. I'm back in the saddle and trying to write as much as possible. I'm making tons of changes thanks to the Borderlands Boot Camp from one year ago, but because of family, work and life, it's just taking longer. However, having just turned 37, I've made a couple decisions that will hopefully place me further along come one year from now. I'm cutting back some of my TV time and devoting those hours to writing the novel. I'm still addicted to Lost, Prison Break, Heroes (unbelievable show!), 24, Grey's Anatomy...but I've got to cut back if I want to type "The End" on my first draft by this time next year. And I know I can do it sooner, so we'll see.
I love the new direction my story is taking, and I'm still pretty much making it up as I go along.
Anyway, I'm on a "brand new" page 31 of the story, but have about 75 or so pages from previous drafts that I'm also going to use. And now that I better understand some of my writing faults, I think I can easily expand those previous pages to make them more compellling. I'm adding more really cool (at least I think it is) history into the novel, and the novel has morphed into this dark fantasy/horror/historical fiction story...in that order of relevance I think. I think if I can get it done and my writing is halfway decent, the story will sell itself. It's so freakin perfect for a series of novels, movies, comics, etc...but I have to finish novel #1 before I can think about the rest. So, I need to do a bit of work, but later tonight I'll open up my laptop and type away...
Nuff said for now!!
